Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 1: Day 1: Arrival in Addis Ababa โ Fly to Bahir Dar โ Lake Tana Monasteries
Morning (Upon Arrival):
Arrive at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport. Meet your driver-guide and transfer to the domestic terminal for a short flight to Bahir Dar.
Midday (11:00 AM โ 1:00 PM):
Arrive in Bahir Dar, a city on the southern shore of Lake Tana. Check into your hotel and enjoy lunch.
Afternoon (2:00 PM โ 6:00 PM):
Embark on a boat cruise across Lake Tana, the source of the Blue Nile. Visit ancient island monasteries such as Ura Kidane Meheret, known for its beautiful religious murals and ancient Christian manuscripts.
Evening (7:00 PM):
Return to the hotel. Dinner and overnight stay in Bahir Dar.
Day 2: Day 2: Bahir Dar โ Blue Nile Falls โ Drive to Gondar
Morning (8:00 AM โ 12:00 PM):
After breakfast, drive to the Blue Nile Falls (Tis Issat). Take a scenic hike to view the falls, passing over the historic Portuguese Bridge and through local farmland.
Midday (12:30 PM โ 2:00 PM):
Return to Bahir Dar for lunch and check out of the hotel.
Afternoon (2:30 PM โ 5:30 PM):
Drive from Bahir Dar to Gondar (approximately 3 hours). Arrive in Gondar and check into your hotel.
Evening (7:00 PM):
Dinner and overnight stay in Gondar.
Day 3: Day 3: Gondar โ Castles & Churches โ Fly to Lalibela
Morning (8:00 AM โ 12:00 PM):
Explore Gondar, Ethiopia's 17th-century imperial capital. Visit the Royal Enclosure, a UNESCO World Heritage Site featuring several impressive castles and palaces. Continue to Debre Berhan Selassie Church, famous for its magnificent ceiling frescoes of winged angels.
Midday (12:30 PM โ 1:30 PM):
Lunch in Gondar.
Afternoon (2:30 PM โ 4:00 PM):
Transfer to Gondar Airport for a short flight to Lalibela. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel.
Evening (7:00 PM):
Dinner and overnight stay in Lalibela.
Day 4: Day 4: Lalibela โ Rock-Hewn Churches โ Fly to Addis Ababa โ Departure
Morning (8:00 AM โ 12:00 PM):
Explore Lalibela's legendary rock-hewn churches. Visit the Northern Group including Bete Medhane Alem (the largest monolithic church in the world) and Bete Mariam. Then visit the Western Group, highlighted by Bete Giyorgis (St. George's Church), a freestanding cruciform structure carved deep into the earth.
Midday (12:30 PM โ 1:30 PM):
Lunch in Lalibela.
Afternoon (2:00 PM โ 3:00 PM):
Transfer to Lalibela Airport for your flight back to Addis Ababa.
Late Afternoon โ Evening (4:00 PM โ 6:00 PM):
Upon arrival in Addis Ababa, enjoy a brief city tour. Visit the National Museum of Ethiopia, home to the famous hominid fossil "Lucy." Then explore Merkato, one of Africa's largest open-air markets.
Evening:
Transfer to Addis Ababa Bole International Airport for your onward flight. End of tour.
